August Shire Meeting

  • Officer Report (Exchequer): Dona Mora is in Costa Rica but assures us we have money. We spent $140 on the new shelving unit.
  • Officer Report (Webwright): Lord Magnus reports nothing new.
  • Officer Report (Chatelaine): Countess Jane will be stepping down, likely when Todde and Mora get back. The Kingdom Demo Handbook is being rewritten, in part because of re-iteration of Society policy regarding the publication of demos. Jane will likely be holding onto loaner garb (3-4 large rubbermaid tubs) until she moves.
  • Officer Report (Arts & Sciences): Lady Gwen reports that the enameling and etching workshop last month went well. Jane is going to try to run another iteration of it; pending scheduling with Countess Albra, it might be down in Darach. This month’s class will likely be silk pennon painting, to make red tower pennons for Isles and to teach people the technique to be used with their own heraldry later.
  • Officer Report (Quartermaster): Constanza is happy to have things on shelves. There are some loaner armor odds and ends that we might want to get rid of; more of them will be appearing when Jane and Angelo move.
  • Thanks to the efforts a considerable fraction of the Shire, the Isles’ storage was moved to Constanza and Delphine’s garage. Based on the volume of Isles gear that Jane and Angelo have now and will be returning, we might want to get a second shelf. Constanza will bring it up at a future meeting if she feels the need.
  • Great Western War pre-registration ends at the end of the month. We have a handful of people camping with Isles who have never been to war before, so Gwen will host a roundtable about camping at war next Tuesday at 8 PM (during Craft Night). We also need to figure out what communal things we want to bring (e.g. the Blob, the tower posts, etc.).
  • Following up on our conversation about UCSB recruiting last month, Lord Lodovico contacted the Office of Student about what other student organizations do to advertise, but has heard nothing back.
  • Paul issued a Challenge to the Shire: If you are a paid member, have a name and device registered or in submission, and attend five events between this upcoming Crown Tournament (August 16) and Spring Crown (February 28), he will award you a Prize of his choosing. For more details, talk to him.
  • Based on the conversation about the need to publicize demos in an official newsletter, Paul will follow up with the Kingdom Chronicler about becoming warranted and developing an official newsletter.
  • Caid has developed a new method for creating Facebook Events for events. Contact The Honorable Lady Meave Douglas, Kingdom Social Media Officier, to learn how.
  • Isles Anniversary is Saturday, November 15. Paul will have a site proposal for the next meeting. He will work with Delphine and Mora to find attendance numbers from prior events and to create a budget.
  • Potentially of interest to Shire-folks: There is a Gem Faire at Earl Warren Showgrounds this weekend.
