March Shire Meeting

  • Officer Report – Seneschal: Lord Lodovico and Lord Paul went to Privy Council. Among the things discussed there:
    • Meetings can be held in private residences, but must follow the Society’s rules for removing people from events. In theory we could move the Shire meetings to Todde and Mora’s. Reminder: SCA insurance only covers property damage, not personal injury liability.
    • There is discussion of moving Fall Coronation to Twelfth Night and combining the events. If you have feedback on this proposal, send it to Lodovico.
    • Medieval Marketplace will likely no longer be hosted by the Barony of the Angels. They are thinking about turning it over to kingdom.
    • Officer warrants, particularly for kingdom-level offices, will not be rubber stamped by the Crown. Make sure you give the Crown time to consider any warrants you need signed.
    • Talon Crescent Festival over President’s Day Weekend was a big success; 250 attendees and $2000 profit. They are shooting for making it a camping event for next year.
    • Kingdom Arts & Sciences Festival and Pentathlon + CP will be at the Highland War site in March 2015.
    • Electronic payments for events is coming (slowly). There may be a kingdom policy for family event caps coming.
    • New social media policies are being developed. Caid will be the test kingdom for Instagram.
    • A new online officer reporting system is being rolled out.
    • A new, database-driven Order of Precedence is coming; target rollout is end of this month.
    • Potrero War will be have a Google Calendar.
    • Several territories discuss methods they use to attract newcomers, including handing out copies of the Crown Prince rather than flyers and holding Medieval Sundays in the Park to give newbies the experience of an event. (Also: everyone has business cards.)
    • If you are running an event, you need budgets, particularly for kingdom events. Also, make sure you report events to the Exchequer.
  • Officer Report – Webwright: The section for Filthy Dirty Collegium will be removed. There was talk in the past about updating the Scriptorium. Does anybody have anything they would want to include?
  • Officer Report – Quartermaster: Planning on doing the shed cleanup on the weekend of March 29, or April 26 if that doesn’t work. Does anybody have any objections to either of these dates?
  • Officer Report – Chatelaine: We had a demo. Yay! We should have newbies at practice next week.
  • Officer Report – Arts & Sciences: Feb A&S class was Paul’s class on syrups & non-alcoholic brewing. Campfire Songs of Caid will be on Thursday, March 20th at Todde & Mora’s. Bring sheet music or lyrics for songs you can teach. Collegium Caidis is March 22-23. The Pentathlon Handbook should be released then. On Sunday at Collegium there will be a Coroso Ball (ask Lady Delphine for details). Delphine will see if she can get the song list from Meala so we can practice. If anyone hears about something that would make a good museum trip in LA, please let Lady Gwen know.
  • Officer Report – Exchequer: We have money.
  • Event Points-of-Contact: Paul and Countess Jane will be coordinating to have a volunteer from the Shire act as a point-of-contact for each event that people from Isles are attending. The point-of-contact will help build excitement, determine who is going, try to create carpooling opportunities, determine what of the Shire’s equipment needs to be brought (e.g. the Blob), etc. If you are interested in being a point-of-contact for an upcoming event, please talk to Paul or Jane. Thank you to Delphine for being the first volunteer, for Angels Melee.
  • Archery: Jane will try again on getting access to the Chabad range. Also, she and Lodovico are now Archery Marshalls-in-Training.
  • Coronation: Jane is coordinating the Shire presentation to Their Highnesses after they step up.
  • CP Tourney: There will be Sheep to Shawl event at CP in Darach in July. If you are interested in participating, talk to Gwen.

Last Week

This month’s Arts & Sciences class, about making sekanjabin and other non-alcoholic period beverages, was taught by Lord Paul. Word on the street is that it was tasty, informative, and fun.

This Week

Angels Melee is coming up this Sunday, March 8th, in La Verne, CA. If you are thinking about attending, please contact Lady Delphine.

West Coast Culinary Symposium is Friday through Sunday near Idyllwild, CA, hosted by the Barony of Gyldenholt. It is sold out; Paul and Gwen will be attending.
